Looper on Open Road's 'Clarice' Trailer

CBS used the Super Bowl to push a lot of its own content, both new and returning, but apart from The Equalizer, which was premiering immediately after the game, no upcoming CBS show was pushed harder than Clarice, the original drama spinning off from the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs. We got a number of short teasers, but most interesting was the full-length Clarice Super Bowl trailer, which essentially takes 60 seconds to vividly re-tell the story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling and her murdered lambs. Re-establishing Clarice in the minds of viewers is exceptionally important. While she appears in the sequel, Hannibal, the franchise as a whole has generally been far more interested in the cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter than in Clarice, and linking the new version to her most famous piece of dialogue is a brilliant way of bringing her back into the consciousness of the viewer and emphasizing that she, not Lecter, is the star of this show. It's even more important when you consider that, due to rights issues, CBS can't actually use the Lecter character, most recently seen starring in his own show on NBC.

Entertainment Weekly on Open Road's 'Clarice' Super Bowl Trailer

In case you didn't realize that Clarice was a sequel series to The Silence of the Lambs, there are now actual lambs in the new trailer that dropped during the Super Bowl on Sunday.

"The lambs were screaming," actress Rebecca Breeds recites as the lead character, Clarice Starling. "I tried to free them. I thought if I could save just one… but he was so heavy. I couldn't save the lamb. But I will never stop trying."

The teaser ends with a moth landing on Clarice's mouth as a nod to the poster for the 1991 horror-thriller that saw Jodie Foster as Clarice opposite Anthony Hopkins as cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter. That name, however, won't be mentioned on the CBS show due to rights issues with author Thomas Harris' book characters, as explained by the producers.

Open Road's 'Young Rock' Trailer Featured on Rolling Stone

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reflects on his formative years while being interviewed as a presidential candidate during the year 2032 in the new trailer for NBC’s Young Rock. Co-created by Nahnatchka Khan (Fresh Off the Boat, Always Be My Maybe) and Johnson, the comedy series based on the wrestler-actor’s life premieres on February 16th.

“To understand me,” Johnson tells the interviewer, “you gotta understand where I came from.” Actor Randall Park, who portrays himself as a journalist in 2032, covers Johnson’s campaign journey in the series, as Entertainment Weekly reports. Rosario Dawson, who makes a brief appearance in the trailer, will play General Monica Jackson, and will serve as “a very integral key to Dwayne Johnson’s presidential campaign,” according to EW.

The clip features flashbacks to Johnson’s formative years, highlighting him growing up in a wrestling family while living in Hawaii at age 10 (played by Adrian Groulx), to his mustachioed mid-teen years (portrayed by Bradley Constant) on through early adulthood (portrayed by Uli Latukefu).

The “wild and true story” spotlights Johnson’s “larger than life family” as well as his rise in athletics, from playing football at University of Miami to becoming a superstar pro wrestler. In addition to Johnson portraying himself as he runs for president, he also serves as narrator.

Open Road's 'Young Rock' Trailer Featured on MSN

NBC released the full-length trailer for "Young Rock" on Tuesday, giving a glimpse of the pro-wrestler-turned-Hollywood star's journey from young kid growing up in Hawaii to getting his start in professional athletics.

The trailer also reveals the "How I Met Your Mother"-esque framing device for the show, which has Dwayne Johnson playing himself as a presidential candidate in 2032, recalling his early life history.

"To understand me," Johnson says in the clip, "you gotta understand where I came from."

Open Road's 'Superman and Lois' Trailer Featured on Deadline

Family takes the spotlight in the season one trailer for the CW’s upcoming series Superman & Lois.

Featuring Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch in the titular roles, the newly released teaser gives Superman fans a look at what life may be like for the iconic comic book couple in Smallville.

“We all begin as one version of ourself, but as we grow life changes us,” says Hoechlin’s Clark Kent.

The trailer features a rotoscoped montage of Clark and Lois’ various life events in Smallville – from the birth of their first child to the growing tension that will ensue between the parents and their teenagers. Open Road's 'Judas and the Black Messiah' Trailer Featured as One of 2020's Great Trailers on Muse by Clio

Chosen by Nick Temple
Founder/Chief Creative Officer
Wild Card Creative Group

"Crushing combination of dialogue, sound design and music brilliantly melded into one. It would have been easier to cut on every beat, but the confidence to hold on certain shots is what defines this trailer for me—summed up in two: the smile and wave from Jesse Plemons to the look of consequence from Lakeith Stanfield. Truly special."

"Packs more energy and emotion into two minutes than most films manage in two hours. It's such a simple but effective trailer. So much is explained through looks and glances, you get the bare minimum of expository dialogue but still completely understand everything that is happening, which allows the music and chanting to capture the mood and tone perfectly."

Chosen by Lauri Brown
SVP Creative Advertising
Universal Pictures

"The start of the piece is simple, clean and pulls you in. The music is a great find. The signature musical riff is good, and overall the cue helps the story feel even more contemporary. Even though repeating a phrase or using a speech isn't new or groundbreaking, they make it particularly effective here. Nothing is trying too hard to push you in one direction. It's well done construction that lets the tension, and what looks like a great a performance, really build."

Open Road's 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion' and 'Pieces Of A Woman' Trailers Featured on Muse by Clio

"If you can believe it, it's been 30 years since a couple of guys who were up to no good started making trouble in the neighborhood, and well, you know the rest. Now, the Banks family is back in a reunion special for HBO Max. The trailer clues us in on what to expect as we see the almost-complete cast (RIP, Uncle Phil) together reminiscing and also uses great throwback graphics, show clips, and yes, that darn theme song to remind us why we are still singing it all these years later. Get ready to relive the magic of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when the special airs Nov. 19."

"This emotionally searing piece is for Pieces of a Woman, a film about a young mother's loss that gathered a lot of buzz on the festival circuit and is now coming to Netflix. Using a stirring Britney Howard track, "Short and Sweet," what looks to be an incredible performance by Vanessa Kirby shines through as the pain of grief resonates strongly throughout this moving trailer. Kirby also fills the page on the dramatic poster. Pieces of a Woman comes to Netflix on Jan. 7."

BET on Open Road's Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Trailer

"A trailer of the reunion dropped, which features the entire cast with the exception of James Avery, who played Uncle Phil. Avery passed away in 2013 at 68 years old reportedly due to complications from heart surgery. In addition, Janet Hubert, known as the original Aunt Viv, makes an appearance."

The LA Times on Open Road's Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Trailer

"The hilarious and heartwarming preview, released Friday across the screen icon’s social media, sees original cast members Smith, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, Alfonso Ribeiro and DJ Jazzy Jeff chillin’ out, HBO Maxin’, relaxin’ all cool in the Banks’ Bel-Air mansion."

"Later in the trailer, the actors also reflect on the enduring legacy of the series, which Ali says “meant Black excellence to people” because of “the way that we loved each other.” And one bittersweet moment sees the tight-knit cast pay tribute to the late James Avery, who was “the heart of the show” as Uncle Phil."
